Good morning, Reformers,
Our deputy editor Max Nesterak recently dug through public records to examine the personal stock holdings — and unavoidable conflicts of interest — of GOP attorney general nominee Ron Schutz. A few days later, during a debate with Keith Ellison, Schutz promised to put his holdings into a blind trust. Reformer gets results.
As it happens, Max also published a story Friday about how the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office will no longer classify some deputies as “undercover,” which previously allowed them to conceal their body-camera footage from the public — even when they had been doing regular police work. This came after Max’s reporting this summer.
It’s an old journalism cliche, but it’s true: Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Help us shine light on the dark corners.
